We are now well into the slightly adjusted monthly service schedule, following Canon Marvin’s retirement - Evensong being brought forward to the third service in the month and the fourth being ‘Morning Worship’ led by a churchwarden.

October’s Evensong was particular special as it coincided with the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams. All the hymns were set to well known Vaughan Williams tunes. During the service Christine interviewed our organist Hugh Cobbe, a trustee of the Vaughan Williams Foundation and author of the ‘Letters of Ralph Vaughan Williams 1895-1958’, about the life and work of the great composer.

We also celebrated the repair of the organ, after the blower which supplies air to the pipes failed in September. The work was complicated by the presence of asbestos in the blower housing. We are grateful to the various contractors who conducted the work, All Asbestos, Watkins and Watson and Viscount Organs (who supplied a portable organ whilst ours was out of service). We are especially thankful for the wonderful generosity of St Martin’s Guild who have funded the repair work.
