On 9th November our traditional Remembrance Sunday service took place at the East End war memorial to remember those men and women in the armed services who lost their lives in the two world wars.
This year's event, led by Revd Lisa, was particularly special for two reasons. We were very grateful that John Wells, from the East Woodhay Silver Band, was able to play the Last Post and Reveille and accompany the hymn and National Anthem. Secondly we were privileged to be joined by members of the Sandbach family who wanted to pay particular tribute to William Sandbach who was killed in the First World War and his son Peter, lost in the Second.
Special thanks go to the Chipchase and Clifton families for once again providing refreshments after the service.
The Sandbach family then went on to St Martin's Church for a special service, also led by Revd Lisa.
The family shared an extract from the September 1915 Parish Magazine which reported William Sandbach's death and also confirmed that he was a Churchwarden at the time (although, sadly, his name in the copy below has been crossed out).
